Chemical biology is a scientific discipline spanning the fields of chemistry and biology. The discipline involves the application of chemical techniques, analytical methods and often the production of small molecules as probes, conjugates or inhibitors to the study and manipulation of biological systems. Chemical biology deals with chemistry applied to biology and it encompasses aspects of synthetic, bioorganic, medicinal and supramolecular chemistry together with biochemistry, pharmacology, metabolic and protein engineering.
