Employability Celebratory Showcase Dinner

Anetenna

School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies work placement schemes, Languages for Business and the Workplacement nd Employability Programme, jointly hosted a celebratory showcase dinner on 3 May 2018. The event, held at Antenna in the heart of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, was the culmination of the past year’s successful work placements of School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies students in local businesses. After introductions from Head of School, Nicola McLelland, Jo Gregory and Lea Guetta, one postgraduate and two undergraduate students gave presentations with their placement providers on how language and cultural consultations benefited the business with some insights into the realities of international business, including BA French and Hispanic Studies student, Richard Raithby, who pointed out that his placement provider’s business tagline “The elephant in the room” is not as seamlessly translatable into Spanish as Google translate would have us believe.

Congratulations also to Qian Peng (MA Chinese/English translating & Interpreting) and Jack Weaver (BA Film and Television Studies) for their excellent presentations and to all the students who undertook successful placements this year.
