International Workshop: innovation and entrepreneurship in the developing world

Description
An international workshop, with the aim of establishing an international consortium to develop a global-local knowledge system for sustainable agriculture and food security in marginal areas in developing countries, was held on 2-3 May at the Si Yuan Centre. The event was organised by Nottingham University Future Food Beacon (FF Beacon), Haydn Green Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (HGI) and Africa Diaspora Academic Network in the UK (ADAN-UK) with support from NCI.

7th Si Yuan Cup Table Tennis Tournament: bringing people together through China's national sport

Description
16 February saw over 150 people attend the 7th Si Yuan Cup Table Tennis Tournament at the University of Nottingham's David Ross Sports Village. 86 contestants from eight countries aged between ten and 70+ years old took part, with more than 20 people, old and young, registering for free table tennis taster session.

2019 Temple Fair- another successful CNY event supported by NCI

Description
On February 2 hundreds of local residents joined the fun at the 2019 Temple Fair in the Old Market Square. The event was organised by Nottingham City Council along with the Chinese Students and Scholars Associations (CSSA) of both the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, supported by Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI), Asia Business Centre and Hino Travel.

NCI helps local schools and UoN departments celebrate Chinese New Year

Description
January and February have seen Nottingham Confucius Institute staff busy delivering Chinese language and cultural workshops in local schools and various University departments as a major part of Chinese New Year celebrations. In line with our commitment to offering development opportunities and enhancing the UoN student experience, we recruited and trained six student volunteers to work alongside our staff.

Language and cultural workshops at Minster School

Description
On 11 January, NCI General Manager Hua Geddes and Mandarin Teacher Mengdi Wang delivered a day of Chinese language and cultural workshops at Minster School as part of the school's language day. The workshops were attended by nearly 200 year 8 students.

Chinese Calligraphy Competition at Alderman White School

Description
December saw the first Chinese Calligraphy Competition take place at NCI's Confucius Classroom at the Alderman White School. It was organised by our CC teachers with support from the school's language team.
