"About China" Workshop 1 : 'Telling Stories through Music and Sound"

To celebrate our annual Confucius Institute Day, NCI has organised a series of workshops in partnership with Lakeside Arts, introducing local children and their families to elements of Chinese culture and language through fun, creative activities.

NCI holds outdoor Tai Chi workshops led by Dr Lan Lo

Description
Nottingham Confucius Institute were delighted to offer four Tai Chi workshops for University staff, students and members of the general public in the fresh summer air on UoN's beautiful University Park campus. Spread across July and early August, the events were organised in partnership with Lakeside Arts and led by Dr Lan Lo, a qualified Tai Chi instructor and member of staff at the University.

Brush Painting fun for Mandarin students at Rushcliffe School

Description
The week commencing 19 July saw year 8 and 9 Mandarin students at Rushcliffe School, one of NCI's partner schools, attend Chinese Brush Painting workshops, where they painted their first ever peony flowers. As you can see from the pictures on the right, the students' enthusiasm and flair produced some gorgeous artwork!

NCI holds online training event for local Mandarin teachers

Description
11 July saw NCI's annual teaching training programme take place online via Zoom. The event ran from 10:00-12:00 and attracted nearly ninety Mandarin teachers based at local primary and secondary schools in the UK.

Mandarin Corner: "Entering the World of Chinese Characters"

Description
June 17 saw over 20 participants join NCI's final Mandarin Corner event of the academic year, "Entering the World of Chinese Characters", with great enthusiasm. The online class introduced the origin, development and formation of Chinese characters and was delivered by highly experienced Mandarin teacher Ms Zhuanhui Guo.

Online Mandarin Courses available this summer with Nottingham Confucius Institute

We are pleased to confirm that NCI will be offering a range of 5-week courses this summer, including HSK Beginners, Conversational Mandarin and Character Writing, all taught by experienced language teachers from Chinese universities.

NCI holds public lecture on online teaching and task-based approaches

Description
Sunday May 23 saw over 50 Mandarin teachers and TCSOL students from both the UK and China attend an online lecture organised by the Nottingham Confucius Institute and Fudan University. We were pround to welcome Professor Wu Zhongwei and Ms Xu Jing from Fudan's School of International Cultural Exchange, to deliver a lecture entitled "The Interface of Online Teaching and Task-based Teaching".

Public Talk- Understanding who we are: a Daoist perspective

Description
On 20 May, NCI was proud to hold its third and final Chinese Philosophy Lecture session of the term entitled "Understanding who we are: a Daoist perspective". The talk was once again given by founder of Embrace China Ltd Mr Manuel Parreno, who studied Chinese Philosophy in China for three years after developing a passion for Daoism.

Public Talk - The Law Governing all Laws: Daoism and Happiness

Description
Nottingham Confucius Institute was delighted to host the second session in the NCI Chinese Philosophy Talk Series on Daoism on 22 April. The Teams talk was again delivered by Manuel Parreno, a China expert who studied Political Science and Chinese language in the US before taking a three-year Masters degree in Chinese Philosophy in China after developing a passion for Daoism.
