Dr Xue-Zhong Sun Awarded Vice Chancellor's Medal

Description
We would like to congratulate Dr Xue-Zhong Sun, Headteacher of Nottingham Chinese School (NCS) and Senior Research Fellow at the School of Chemistry, on receiving the Vice Chancellor's Medal on 1 October for his remarkable contributions to the local community over the past twenty years.

Public talk by Prof WANG Zhengxu, Fudan University

Description
On 22nd August, Professor Wang Zhengxu of Fudan University gave a talk on 'Traditional Political Order in China's World: the Confucian-Legalist State and its Impact'. He examined the formation of the bureaucratic imperial political system in China around the Qin and Han periods (221BC-220AD), explaining how its various characteristics helped define patterns of ancient history in China and East Asia.

NCI supports Broxtowe Community Celebration Summer Event

Description
Nottingham Confucius Institute joined the Broxtowe Community Celebration Group (BCCG) at the Community Summer Event to celebrate cultures from around the world on Saturday 6th July. The event, strongly supported by Broxtowe Borough Council, took place at Round Hill Primary School in Beeston and was attended by nearly 600 people.

Primary school pupils enjoy language and cultural workshops delivered by CC teachers

Description
Between 26 June and 4 July, Mandarin teachers based at the Alderman White Confucius Classroom delivered Chinese language and cultural workshops to five of Alderman White's feeder primary schools including John Clifford School, Eskdale Junior School, Bramcote C of E Primary School and Sunnyside Primary Academy.

Talk by Dr Chun Cai: 'How to be a Good Teacher of Chinese in the UK'

Description
On 6th June, Dr Chun Cai, founder and director of Chinese at Winchester College with 25 years of teaching experience, gave a fantastic talk on the qualities that Chinese language teachers need in the UK - highlighting the importance of a high level of language proficiency in both English and Chinese along with an in-depth understanding of both cultures.

On Saturday 15th June Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) joined departments from all over the University for 'Wonder', the University's largest community engagement event with hundreds of free activities designed to inspire curious minds of all ages.

On 10th June, NCI held a pre-departure briefing for ten University of Nottingham students who will be embarking on four-week work placements at companies based in various Chinese cities including Zhuhai, Chengdu and Qingdao.

Description
Nottingham Confucius Institute joined in to celebrate the International Children's Festival once again at the Wheee! Family Weekend. The free two-day community event took place in Highfields Park on 1st and 2nd June and was attended by over 4,500 people.

NCI celebrates Dragon Boat Festival

Description
6 June saw over 60 Nottingham staff, students and local residents attend the "Zongzi and Perfume Sachet Making Workshop" at the Si Yuan Centre. The event was organised by NCI in celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival, one of the major traditional Chinese festivals.

NCI holds workshop 'Teaching Chinese overseas: theories and methods'

Description
28 May saw a half day workshop on Chinese language teaching take place on University Park Campus. The event was jointly organised by NCI and UoN's School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies and attracted over 20 attendees including TCSOL experts, Mandarin teachers at CIs and local schools.
