Glossary
- Moving and Handling: the transporting or supporting of a load by one or more members of staff, which includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving, and by reason of its characteristics of unfavourable ergonomic conditions, involves risk, particularly of back injuries to staff.
- Risk assessment: the determination of the level of risk in a particular course of action.
- Health care worker: an employee in a healthcare facility who has close contact with patients, patient-care areas or patient-care items.
- Lumbar spine: the area of the spinal column that comprises the low back.
