Hoists may be powered by mechanical, electrical or hydraulic means and you should familiarise yourself with their safe working before using them. Each hoist must be inspected and you should check that it has been approved for use. You should be familiar with the emergency and stop systems and check that it is in good working order.

In some clinical areas, you are no longer able to position yourselves on the bed for two reasons: infection prevention and control issues, and the weight limit of beds. Please check local policy and use resources accordingly.
