Beyond Broadcasting: Academic Engagement with Ofcom

On 24 May Dr Catherine Johnson co-hosted an academic-industry seminar with the UK communications regulator, Ofcom, on the theme ‘Beyond Broadcasting'. The seminar brought together senior staff from Ofcom with academic experts in television, media, policy and regulation to discuss the regulatory and policy implications of developments in digital and online television. The event gave Ofcom staff access to some of the most current academic research in this rapidly developing area and enabled academics and regulators to work together to develop a shared research agenda. The workshop aims to be the first of a series of academic-industry events that will be held around different themes every 6 month. It was the culmination of a year-long relationship with Ofcom through the Impact Leaders Programme, which has also resulted in an AHRC collaborative doctoral award for a PhD student, Lauren Dempsey, to work with Ofcom to undertake a longitudinal analysis of changing media use in the UK.
