Best Presentation at Rank Prize Fund Meeting

Dr Andrew French, recently appointed to a Lectureship in Bioimage Analysis in the Schools of Computer Science and Biosciences, was awarded the Best Presentation Prize for his talk “Image analysis for 3D crop canopy modelling” at the Rank Prize Fund’s recent Mini-symposium on Photosynthesis.

Rank Prize Mini-symposia are highly prestigious, invitation-only events at which some ten leading scientists in a particular field are invited to meet with twenty or so younger researchers for two and a half days of talks and discussions. All those invited are required to give a presentation, and Dr French’s talk discussed methods for the recovery of 3D models of plant structure using a variety of sensors. This work is being conducted as part of the BBSRC project “Removing the inefficiencies of 3-dimensional canopy photosynthesis by the alteration of leaf light-response dynamics and plant architecture”, in which 3D models of plant canopies are being used to support modelling of photosynthesis.
