Description: We are delighted to welcome new Head Coaches for three of our sport programmes at the University of Nottingham Sport. Freddie Fairbairn, Anna Maria Carbone and James Bateman have taken the reigns of the Volleyball, Judo and Men's Hockey programmes respectively. Here, we have profiled each of our new coaches and spoken briefly with them around their appointments.

Description: The FISU Gender Equality Awards honour projects or individuals who have made significant efforts to advance and achieve gender equality within university sport in their country, continent or internationally.FISU supports projects that increase the participation of women in university sport and encourages its members to develop these projects to help inspire others to increase their efforts and resources committed to this topic.

Description: After the 2020 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cups were cancelled due to COVID-19, the GB Paraclimbing team headed out to Moscow for the first international competition since the Briançon World Championships in 2019, which included Martha who looked to do better than the bronze she won 2 years ago. Due to new classification rules in preparation for a bid to become a Paralympic discipline, all athletes first had to go through a new classification assessment. After several athletes had to undergo additional climbing observations, and some uncertainty about classifications, Martha was able to compete after a few nerve-wracking days of waiting and was placed in the RP3 sports class.

Description: We are delighted to announce that University of Nottingham alumnus and former England Rugby international Brian Moore has been inducted into our Hall of Fame. Brian's induction into our Hall of Fame is well deserved and was celebrated recently in conjunction with the celebration of the university rugby clubs centenary year. The centenary should have been celebrated in 2020, however due to the pandemic was unable to take place. The night, held at Nottingham Conference Centre, included a silent and standard auction with all money raised on the night going towards the continued growth of the rugby club. It was fantastic to see so many of the clubs former players reunite at the dinner, reminiscing and discussing stories from their time playing in the #GreenandGold.

Description: After a competitive process, Louise Ramsdale has been named as the Canoe Slalom Performance Coach at the University of Nottingham.The University Canoe Slalom Performance Coach partnership will develop and support talented student-athletes, in their dual career, with a goal of helping them to achieve their performance potential at British University College Sport (BUCS) events and GB U23 Selection events.

Description: University of Nottingham Sport are proud to announce a new partnership with Super Smash, who will feature as the headline sponsor for the IMS programme for the 2021/2022 academic year.Super Smash is a new fast-food outlet that opened in May 2021 and is located in the heart of Nottingham city. With dine-in and takeaway services through Deliveroo and Uber Eats, Super Smash offers a range of deluxe burgers, sides, sweets and drinks for all to enjoy.

Description: This summer, athletes from around the world have been taking part in the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics which were hosted in Tokyo, Japan. As you may have seen in our Olympics round-up, the University of Nottingham had current students, alumni and associates all represent Team GB with distinction. This included Emily Campbell winning an historic Silver medal as the first British female weightlifter to win an Olympic medal. Shortly after the finish of the Olympic games, focus soon turned to the Paralympics which began on the 24th August. Again, the University had different representatives across numerous disciplines, ranging from alumni to a former Sports Staff Member. We are hugely proud of the fact that in both games we have been able to support so many athletes with connections to the University, and are delighted at the achievements of the #GreenandGold! Our Paralympians from Tokyo are Sophie Unwin, Stuart Wood, Zhao Shuai and Tim Jeffery.

Description: On 22 August, Badminton England held their National Championship competition which took place at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes. University of Nottingham Sport Scholar, Johnnie Torjussen beat top seed and defending champion Alex Lane in the final of the National Championships to win the senior title.

Description: Competing at the SUPA (Schools & Universities Polo Association) Summer National Championships recently, the University of Nottingham Polo Club had brilliant success. At the championships, the clubs Upper-Intermediate and Novice 1 teams both played incredibly well and managed to win both of their divisions, which meant that the club retained its status as national champions! Having won three previous titles in as many years, this is now the 4th consecutive year that this feat has been accomplished.
