Anaesthesia and Critical Care
We are researchers and teachers working to improve understanding of basic and applied sciences underpinning modern anaesthesia, perioperative practice and critical care medicine.
Our aim is to improve the health of patients by:
- Designing and leading nationally and internationally recognised research in a range of areas related to anaesthesia, including cardiopulmonary physiology, perioperative patient safety, health service organisation and the testing of interventions to improve patient outcome after surgery or injury.
- Working with local, national and international multidisciplinary collaborators to build networks of expertise and research capacity.
- Expertly answering research questions of importance to patients and clinicians with a range of techniques including computational modelling, systematic review and meta-analysis, health-service research, implementation science and experimental clinical trials.
- Leading high-quality teaching of anaesthesia, critical illness and perioperative medicine throughout the University of Nottingham undergraduate curriculum.
- Fostering the next generation of researchers by providing opportunities for postgraduate study at BMedSci, MSc, DPhil and PhD level.
- Hosting opportunities for integrated academic training via the Academic Foundation Programme, Academic Clinical Fellowships and Academic Clinical Lectureships.
