Gastroenterology and Hepatology
Nottingham Digestive Diseases Centre (NDDC) comprises of one of the largest group in the country of academics, National Health Service (NHS) associates and support staff encompassing the breadth and depth of gastroenterology, hepatology, surgery, endoscopy, pathology and radiology.
Our senior faculty (including 6 full Professors and 7 Associate professors) and early career researchers have breadth of expertise ranging from molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, gastrointestinal (GI) & metabolic physiology, magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostic and database epidemiology through to clinical trials and implementation science.
Our goal is to discover novel mechanisms underlying the health and disorders related to the digestive system. We collaborate with patients, volunteers, industry partners, regulators and policy makers to develop innovative tests, devices and interventions to prevent and treat diseases.
NDDC hosts the GI and Liver Disorders theme of National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). This experimental medicine and early translational research programme has achieved successful funding in four consecutive nation-wide competitive cycles through 2008 to 2027.
Study Digestive Diseases
Academic training programme in gastroenterology and hepatology is an exemplar within the School of Medicine. Since its inception, NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) has sustained an excellent (95%) conversion rate to Doctoral fellowship (PhD), high (64%) conversion rate from NIHR ACF to NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer’s position. About 80% of our NIHR ACLs secure substantive academic or clinical positions in reputed Universities or Tertiary University Hospitals.
Our advanced endoscopy courses consistently attract international faculty and attendees.
