Perinatal and Child Health

We do internationally leading research that delivers impact to improve the health outcomes relating to pregnancy, birth and the newborn periods.

Our themes span the pre-conception period, through pregnancy, birth and into the neonatal period including longer term outcomes. We welcome and train postgraduates to be the best researchers of tomorrow, and have expertise in fundamental developmental science, randomised controlled trials, observational and epidemiological studies, newborn care and outcomes.

We teach across all years of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We have a substantial programme of training students in the area perinatal research including those from a scientific and clinical background.

Our research focuses on three core themes:

  1. Periconception and early pregnancy
  2. Late pregnancy and birth
  3. Newborn care and outcomes

We have three cross-cutting themes for our core domains:

  1. Epidemiology, Data Science and Evidence Synthesis
  2. Clinical Trials
  3. Organisation and Social Contexts of Care, PPI/E and Knowledge Exchange/Implementation

Our research primarily takes place in the Centre for Perinatal Research.
