Student DBS clearance
All students are required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check during their first year of study. The reasons for these checks and the procedures for all students are outlined below.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
The role of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is to safeguard vulnerable groups of people. Placement activities may involve working with children and/or vulnerable adults and so all MNutr students need to have an enhanced DBS check, which covers both groups. An enhanced DBS check involves a complete criminal history check and is a legal requirement for the organisations that train our students. The UoN undertakes not to discriminate unfairly against any disclosure. Disclosure information will be handled and disposed of securely in compliance with the DBS Code of Practice, the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
The MNutr course requires all students to apply for a DBS check before they arrive in year one. Students are required to pay for this check themselves. You will receive an email prior to your arrival at Nottingham with instructions on how to apply for your DBS.
Some of our practice educators require students to have a more recent DBS check before commencing B or C placement with them. As a result, some students will need to have a further DBS check in their third and/or fourth year.
The DBS certificate will be sent to you directly. Keep your DBS certificate in a safe place and available at the UoN. The certificate number and date of issue will be needed for placement applications and practice educators may ask you to produce the certificate itself – please take it on placement with you.
