The Future of Ucycle
Over the last 5 years the University has been working in partnership with Sustrans to promote cycling across the University through the Ucycle project. Project officers have worked hard to promote the health and economic benefits of cycling through a number of different events, including Mayfest, community days, Healthy U and one off road-shows.
Over the course of the Ucycle project we have seen:
A significant increase in the number of staff and students cycling to the University
A doubling of the number of bikes parked on campus on an average day
More than £2 million spent on cycling infrastructure and facilities by the University
A significant decrease in single occupancy car use from 57% to 47.5%
Cycle Parking spaces grow to over 4,600 across the University
For more information about the success of the project, please read their final
newsletter
.
The University will be continuing their commitment to cycling. Popular services such as Dr Bike and the Ucycle rental scheme will be continued and you can keen up to date by checking our
Twitter account
and
Facebook page
.
Improving cycle security on campus
Many of you will have seen the University security team out and about talking to staff and students about safe cycling and locking up your bike properly. There is lots of work underway by our security teams to make sure your bike is safe when it is locked up on campus More recently we have improved lighting in cycle parking areas by installing Passive Infra-Red Sensors (PIR) in prominent cycle parking areas.
These include:
front of Chemistry Building
rear of the Pope Building
cycle store on East Drive
cycle parking on Jubilee Drive
For more information on cycle storage and parking at the University of Nottingham, visit our
cycle facilities webpage
