COP26 activities and events at the university

COP26 starts in Glasgow on Monday 1 November for two weeks. Global leaders will come together to act on climate change and commit to new carbon reduction targets to keep the rise in global temperatures below 1.5 degrees. The message of the United Nations conference is clear: We must act now, and act together. Find out more about the goals of COP26.

The university has reinforced its dedication to tackling climate change ahead of COP26, with commitments to reduce emissions, improve environmental sustainability and support Nottingham’s aims to be a net zero carbon city. But we need your help in achieving these ambitions. Read more in the blog by Andy Nolan, Director of Development and Sustainability: COP26: bats, buildings and our climate pledge.

Throughout COP26 we are highlighting how our staff and students can get involved and make a difference. There are events, activities and opportunities to take part in, starting Friday 29 October with a Low-waste Living Workshop. We're be focussing on key themes which underpin the goals of COP26 and reaching net zero.

Follow us on TwitterInstagram, and Facebook to stay up to date with all our activities.

Cutting Carbon

COP26 & Carbon Workshop, how can we cut our carbon emissions at the university?

Tuesday 9 November, 12pm – 1pm

To meet the challenge of the climate crisis we need to reduce our contribution to the problem by lowering our carbon emissions. The university has a target to do this by 63% by 2030. It’s going to require policy changes, behaviour change and investment in our infrastructure.

We are going to need to the help of everyone to get there.

Staff are invited to learn more about the challenges, issues and opportunities we face to be able to cut carbon and save energy. Share your thoughts and ideas with us during this online workshop.

Register here.

Go! Switch Off

From 22 November

Join in with our energy saving campaign go! Switch Off. Wherever you live, work or study you’ll be able to take part in activities to help you save energy, save water and to recycle better.

For students in university catered halls there will be a competition and a prize for the hall that performs the best over a two-week period. We’re currently recruiting halls residents to become go! switch off champions.
