New tram line runs through University Park

Tram on Science Road, University Park campusAfter much anticipation, the second phase of Nottingham’s tram system opened on 25 August 2015 – complete with new park and ride sites, a new tram and bus interchange in Beeston, landmark bridges and a new tram stop at the redeveloped Nottingham Station.

It’s estimated that the expanded network - comprising 28 new stops and 17.5km of new track - will serve around 30% of Greater Nottingham’s population, with Phase Two providing access to 20 of the 30 major employers within Greater Nottingham – including The University of Nottingham.

The Toton line passes through University Park campus, directly linking University Park to Nottingham city centre. Two tram stops are in place on University Boulevard: at the south entrance to University Park and adjacent to the Highfields Sports Ground. Staff and students based at the Queen’s Medical Centre will also benefit, as the tram stops at the hospital – the first tram in the country to serve a hospital. The line also improves public transport links to King’s Meadow Campus, with stops at Gregory Street and NG2 business park.

There are many options for purchasing tickets, including:

Pay as you go
  • purchase from tram stop ticket machine before you board the tram
  • £2.50 return trip for students
  • credit is pre-loaded onto the card to be used on a pay as you go basis
