University of Nottingham students donated over 668 bags of unwanted clothing, books, shoes and electrical items to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) at the end of term. Donations across all Nottingham sites (including Nottingham Trent University, UPP, street banks in neighbourhoods and private accommodation providers) are worth over £100,000 to BHF, and overall donations this year were up almost 100% on June 2016.
The Off-campus team led a group of students going door to door in Lenton giving waste management advice to students preparing to leave Nottingham for the summer and providing British Heart Foundation donation bags to residents. 
Nottingham City Council provided support, arranging the collection of bags the next day.
Students living on campus were able to donate unwanted items in each of the halls to Beeston based Moving On, a community interest company who provide supportive volunteering opportunities to individuals in the local community.
The University of Nottingham campaign formed part of a wider programme of work carried out by a number of agencies. It also aimed to compliment the messages included an email sent by the Students Union highlighting how to dispose of waste at the end of term.
The campaign focused on delivering the following key messages:
- British Heart Foundation- please donate any unwanted items that can be sold on in BHF shops
- Tommy’s food bank- students were informed that any non-perishable food items would be gratefully received by Thomas Helwys Baptist church
- Bins- students were given a reminder to put their household bins out at the end of term to help keep Lenton tidy.
