Current projects and activity

• Development of an Android app of the Elephant Behavioural Welfare Assessment Tool (EBWAT), and the accompanying database and reporting system
• Working in partnership with UK Zoos, DEFRA, BIAZA, and other colleagues on the Elephant Welfare Group
• Elephant behaviour and welfare workshops for mahouts / handlers in Thailand and southern Africa
• Local, national and international knowledge exchange activities, and publicity / media appearances

Our Impact

The work of The Elephant Welfare Project has contributed to changes in policy and practice for captive elephant management and legislation in a number of countries, including the UK and Ireland.
